The Mini Melties is a collection of 2000 generative animations,
created by Buff Monster and animated by Jimmy in Motion.

The basis for this art collection is Buff Monster’s signature character called “Mister Melty”, presented here in mini form. Having used Mister Melty for over 10 years for murals, paintings, prints, and everything in between, this was a unique opportunity for Buff to explore the possibilities of generative artwork, looping animation, and the permanence that the blockchain offers.

Over many months, Jimmy in Motion tweaked and finessed all the various elements so they move, drip and bounce in a smooth manner with uncompromising precision. This has all necessitated much more attention to detail than a non-animated generative project would have required.

And now it has finally culminated in the collection: 2000 unique characters endlessly and optimistically marching into the future. Each animation is represented by a ERC-721 token on the Ethereum blockchain.

A large range of iconic traits and colors has been assembled in unique combinations to create these characters. With so much variety in the assorted attributes, the finished characters capture a whole range of emotions and feelings. The various traits could have been used to generate hundreds of thousands of unique pieces, but we’ve carefully edited them down to a tight group of 2000. Some have brighter colors and more elements than others, but readability and aesthetics were the priority. They’ve all been hand-selected by Buff; the final pieces are consistent, yet varied enough to entertain the collectors.

About Buff Monster

Buff Monster is a New York City artist who uses bright colors, bold lines and funny characters to make the world a better place. He names heavy metal music, ice cream, pop art, Japanese culture and graffiti as major influences. For over 15 years, he’s painted murals all over the world and is included in Banksy’s Oscar-nominated documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop. His meticulously executed paintings have been shown in galleries around the world; the Bristol City Museum has a painting in their permanent collection. He’s worked with some of the most recognizable brands, such as Disney, Converse, Hello Kitty, Samsung, Nike and Coca-Cola. Using the brand name Stay Melty, he continues to release a variety of limited-edition collectibles, including vinyl and resin toys, prints, shirts, stickers and trading cards.
